Siliserh - A perfect weekend drive-away from Delhi
The then King of Alwar (as I am told) Maharaja Vinay Singh fell in love with a Rajput beauty named Sili some two centuries ago and decided to construct this attractive palace amidst the picturesque lake of Aravalis. I am thanking the maharaja for adding one more weekend trips for me and thankfully a nice one. When you combine the cool driving experience to the top of Bala Quila with this Siliserh ( or Siliser or even Silisedh), it qualifies for a good two day weekend outing from Delhi.
Tough task in choosing the chrismas weekend destination this year. Enough of Nimrana, Water Park, Surajkund, … Moreover, no bookings available (thanks to the crowded delhi and suffocated delhites). We thought of revisiting Bala Quila (alwar) and Siliserh fort palace for the second time. In 2007 the places were visited while driving back from Sariska to Delhi. Siliserh is a place between Sariska and Alwar and not found in many wellknown travel books. (25 km from Sariska and 16 km from Alwar)
Bala Quila: This steep fort in Alwar, sitting high up on 1960 ft above sea level, watching over Alwar since pre-Mughal era. Bala Qila supposed to have been built (1550 AD) by a local mewati ruler Hassan Khan Mewati (Khanzada) making it one of the pre-mughal Rajput forts. It is said that Akbar’s son Salim (emperor Jahangir) was exiled here for three years. Bala Qila was occupied by Mewats & Mughals until Pratap Singh finally conquered it in 1775. Bala Qila really transmits that history. Currently houses Alwar’s Police Radio Transmitter Station with restricted entry.
We stopped here after about an hour and after crossing the crowded Delhi and Gurgaon (Mc-D's Manesar outlet).
The road till Alwar (from Dharuhera) in under major construction. Hopefully my next visit will bring me a great driving experience on this stretch of about 80 kms.
My 8 year old daughter (ashmita) took this far view and climbing route to bala quila top. Just selected this out of many photographs she clicked. She is rapidly catching up.....
Jaypol supposed to be the main gate for Bala Quila. Exactly after 1 km you are likely spot the birds and animals. The visit to be avoided in in a crowded time.
WoW.... at a distance of about 50 meters & this time not only peacock....
A piece of history....More than the Qila, you enjoy the drive to the top. You are more likely to spot peacocks, leopards, wildcats, and mongoose while ascending atop the 7 km cliff forsaken fort.
We covered the 16 kms from Bala Quila (Alwar) to this beautiful destination.
Good view of the rooms and outside. Enjoible evening after a good late lunch at Sasuji ka Dhaba (just at the lake arrival point).
A small land mass at the middle of the lake adds to the beauty of the XXL size lake.
In true Rajasthani style (Keshariya baalamji....) the staff arranged fire for us outside our room. We had a gala experience.
Too cold for them too...... Snaps taken from the small alcove (inside the hotel room) with glass windows.
Oh.. my my..... Visitors queuing for tickets early in the morning (7 AM).
Parrots infront of our room (room no 302).... A lovely scene to be lost...
Paddle boat is more fun-filled than the motor boat. Early boating comes with lots of scenic experiences... Lucky us..
Spotting these birds while boating is real fun. Again Ashmita(my daughter) took this...
They are in majority, don't mess with them
